Generation of ‘73, and all the rest - history

The Tent Protest is perhaps the best event that’s happened to this country since Sadat’s visit. The generation of ’73 has stopped whining and is finally doing something. You promised, you didn’t promise, yes peace, no peace, they’re here to put you back in reality. And if you don’t take them seriously, we’ll all return together to the tents of the ma’abarot - when we still referred with pride to brotherhood, friendship, and the ambience of the beautiful young Israel.

'It’s not just the pressing housing problem - it’s the battle for the home that has been lost under your government, which operates between indictments and money tycoons. It started with the poor parents of the soldier who’s been paying for five years the price of your helplessness. But now we are protesting against the prices of milk, bread, water, fuel, the taxes, the distain you showed when you made a reform in the transportation without asking our opinion, the overblown tuition fees unparallel anywhere in the world, the high mortgages of which you have no idea how exhausting and life-shortening they are. From now on, all of this will serve as social gun powder that no “super-tanker” will put out. If you don’t believe it, just ask Mubarak - he also got great applause in the American Circus.

'We are the children you conceived after the ’73 war. When you promised a dove and sent hawks, promised an olive leaf - and sent a fig leaf, promised peace at home, but forgot that for a home you need to work for a life time. You promised a blossoming spring - but brought a flourishing allergy to a corrupt, uncivilized, greedy governing system that runs our lives as if we were mindless actors on a game board with no rules.

'We grew up with helmets on our heads, so as not to feel the stress - we made love, laughed, cried - men and women alike. Our babies don’t remember, nor ever knew, how to keep promises - because that isn’t taught at the schools where if you don’t pay for the “free” education, you don’t get a certificate.

'We promised not to press, nor to demand or to threaten. But we’re sick of it all, and this time we’re are here to realize your promises. We’re tired of being the generation you dreamt of during that hallucinatory winter, and we will not let you use our bodies anymore for your filthy dreams.

'We'll abolish your slave laws that you’ve called “democracy”, we’ll restore decency, improve the education and health systems, and build a place here so all the Israelis you indifferently dispersed around the world are proud to return.

'Go home - it’s too late. We and all the people behind us will make sure you’re comfy there, so you'll never wish to return.
