Hodgetts + Fung Design and Architecture was established in 1984 by Craig Hodgetts and his wife Hsin Ming Fung. A fine representative of the revived trend of social architecture, the award-winning office emits the message of a “new life”, promoting interaction through experimental technology, rich in innovative finishing materials. This interesting combination gains further depth from the interpersonal confluence of technologist Hodgetts, responsible for the structure, and artistic Fung, who advances the creative aspect of the firm.

Hodgetts was the Founding Dean of the School of Design at The California Institute of the Arts, and since 1993 has been a Professor of Architecture at the UCLA School of Art and Architecture.  In articles he published in the 1970s he foresaw the impact of technological information on society - a message whose results are evident in the Internet generation. 

Professor Hsin Ming Fung has taught at prestigious universities such as Yale and Ohio State University, and presently serves as the Director of Graduate Studies at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Buenos Aires, MOCA, LA and the SFMOMA. 

Among the prominent buildings planned by the firm: the Towell Library at UCLA; renovation of the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd.; two public libraries in Los Angeles; the Menlo-Atherton High School Performing Arts Center in Northern California; and recently - The Wild Beast Music Pavilion.
