NOT MERELY COSMETICS
Located
in South Tel Aviv,
Focusing on breaking the characterless mould and turning it into an object of pride and identification, the design included reorganization of the public spaces, renovation of the interior and improvement of the existing façades. Each class was colored a unique hue, and the public spaces (including the toilets) were designed with the softness of a hotel.
The outer renovation included removal of the window air-conditioners, repainting, and a humorous design of the existing service pier as a pencil - an element which has become an identifiable icon.
The photographs taken a year and a half after the renovation speak for themselves - a total lack of vandalism. According to the principal who was involved in every stage of the planning, the esthetic environment awakens, in both students and parents, feelings of pride and identity which are expressed, among other things, in keeping the school clean and quiet.
Worth imitating.
