Fringe Phenomenon - Renewed
Identity of South-East Tel Aviv
Carmel Merhav, final project, Landscape
Architecture Department, Technion,
2018.
Tutors: Landscape architect Dafna
Greenstein,
Tzofia Rosner-Sela, Noah Brut and Dr.
Na’ama Meishar.
The project attempts to do "planning
justice" for a renovated area in south
Tel Aviv that has suffered for years
from physical and social neglect by
the authorities. The proposed solution
presents a holistic approach to space
via a new master plan that includes both
the "Lift Neighborhood" and adjacent
Menahem Begin Park.
The solution proposes the construction of
3-8 storey buildings, in order to meet the
limited resources of the aging population,
while preserving the rural character
of the neighborhood, and reinforcing
the encounter with the park via public
buildings.
The park will include seepage pits for
runoff water, and ecological reservoirs.
For this, house levels will be raised
and vehicles will be removed from the
neighborhood to peripheral parking lots.
