The Main Library at Helsinki University, 2012
Located in the historical center of the city, the building
houses the largest academic library in Finland. Built
above the basement of the old library, the concrete
structure is coated with materials typical of the dense
environment gradually developed since the 1930’s.
Within that, the opposite arc at the front reflects the
spirit of the times, whereby planners can challenge
traditional construction rules, thus symbolizing the new
building in its capacity as a data center.
Natural light penetration is reinforced by skylights,
acting as a central design factor.
