The object under investigation (bottom left)
becomes a proposed receptacle for residential
and commercial buildings in Kikar Hamedina.
As part of the planning process, the building is
partly submerged to become part of the urban
continuum, while the sections take the shape of
balconies and shading devices.
Exploration of the process indicates that
the first ornamentation - such as giving the
handle a special twist, curving the spout,
or making holes for air or pressure release
- initiated a process of deconstruction in
order to re-structure. And in the course
of determining the deconstruction
programme, the motivation to build is
formed, along with starting a form and
function dialogue.
The unique aspect of this method lies in
the section derived from the completed
container, which itself becomes a form
generator, which then gradually turns
from a previously unknown object, into
a continuum of random events, each of
them likely to bring about a different result.
In an age when form precedes content,
many architects fulfil their aspiration
through unusual structure, as part of
their effort to maintain their professional
uniqueness, and not necessarily to
establish any binding correlation between
form and content.
In this situation, the question what
precedes what, the egg or the chicken,
is irrelevant, as long as the chicken
manages to lay fresh eggs.
