The exhibition Fake News - Fake Truth

is currently showing at the Haifa Museum

of Art. Relating to the term "fake-news"

copied from US reality to Israeli politics,

the subject is dealt with by 70 Israeli and

international artists, among them Damien

Hirst, who exhibited his enormous sculptures

"Treasures of the Unbelievable Wreck" at the

Venice Biennale. Closing: 1/9/2019.

"Dance but don’t Forget" – a photographic

exhibition commemorating the Holocaust

through dance scenes by choreographer

Claude Didier, is currently showing at the

Holon Design Museum. Closing: 24/8/2019.

The exhibition, "Where Ends Meet" at the

Gordon Gallery focuses on the New York pair

of artists, Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller,

working since 1999 under the promising

name, FAILE. Closing: 8/6/2019.

The impressive Hudson Yards Tower is

about to be constructed in West Manhattan.

Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, its

marketing image, "Vessel", is a "never-

ending" staircase in the style of the surrealist

artist Maurits Cornelis Escher.

A new, 305 meters high observatory tower

is about to be erected in London. Designed

by Norman Foster, and named Tulip for its

shape, the tower will be completed in 2025.

The Workshop – a traditional project at the

(engineers) Department of Architecture

and Interior Design at the College in Ariel -

focused this year on "cooperative living" in

Tel Aviv of 2048. Students were asked to

concentrate on

"

mixed use" and came up

with a kind of "urban kibbutz" (below).

Registration for the 2020 Project of the Year

competition will open in June, 2019. Running

for the 11th time in conjunction with the

European Union, the competition takes place

in six categories: Buildings, interior design,

landscape architecture, students, research

projects and unbuilt buildings. The aim is

to advance, creative, feasible and climate

aware.

The competition for the Azrieli School of

Architecture at Tel Aviv University is now in

the judging stage. One wonders how come

most architects in Israel were unaware of

one of the most fascinating competitions in

the country. The final submission date was

28/4/2019.

Arata Isozaki has won the 2019 Pritzker

Prize. The judging panel defined him as "the

first Japanese architect to create a profound

and long-lasting dialogue between east and

west". Impressive, but why wait for his 87th

birthday.

A young architects and student competition

has been announced for the design of a

mausoleum for meditation at the site of the

Jasper quarry, Serra da Arrábida, Portugal.

The six selected artists in the Jason Arison

Residency Program, are: Gil Yefman, Yael

Frank, Ela Litvitz, Ruth Patir, Dor Zlecha

Levy, Halil Balabin and Merav Kamel. Each

participant will receive a personal studio,

living stipend and a personal curator.

The 7th International Photography Festival

titled "Fantasy – Between Reality and

Imagination" has been announced. Artists

from the fields of photography, video,

performance and others are invited to submit

proposals responding to the question: What

is fantasy? Submission deadline: 22/5/2019.

Architect Miki Chyutin, Israel champion of

architectural competitions, has passed away.

Codirected with his wife Bracha Chyutin, the

office has won the Rechter Prize 3 times,

and among its outstanding projects are: The

University of the Negev Senate Building, Tel

Aviv University Art Gallery, Haifa Judiciary

Hall, the Givatayim Theater, the Polonsky

Building on the Van Leer Campus, and the

Haifa University Student House. The office

recently won the competition for the redesign

of Safra Square in Jerusalem.

The queen of provocative art, Prof. Siona

Shimshi has died. During the 1960’s she

introduced Batik Shirts to Israel (together with

architect Nahum Cohen); she established the

pottery department at the Bezalel Academy

and later on became the director of its

external studies school; she participated in

the steering committee for the establishment

of the College of Administration School

of Interior Design. Shimshi was an active

member of the Architecture Israel editorial

board, in the frame of which she published

more than ten significant articles.

Italian architect and designer, Alessandro

Mendini, has died. Mendini designed the

"Proust Armchair" at the Groninger Museum;

was a central figure in the Radical Design

Movement of the 60’s, and a member of

the subsequent Post Modern Movement.

His work in the field of architecture, interior

design, furniture and lighting over a period of

sixty years is considered highly influential.

The annual conference of the Israeli Green

Building Council will take place on 10/9/2019

in the Smolarz Auditorium at Tel Aviv

University.

Initiated by the Nagar Interdisciplinary School

of Art and Society, the MusraraMix Festival

will take place throughout the Musrara

neighborhood, Jerusalem during May 28-30.

Dozens of artists and musicians from Israel

and around the world will present their work

and musical performances. The subject of

the festival this year is: "Displacement".

The exhibition "Micropop" is showing at

the Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art in

Haifa. Dozens of young artists examine

contemporary trends in Japanese art.

The exhibition "Eclectic-Modern" at the

Azrieli Architecture Archive at the Tel Aviv

Museum focuses on Sam Barkai's works.

Starting his career as an eclectic architect,

Barkai became one of the most prominent

Modern Architects during the thirties'. His

famous buildings include Aginsky House on

Engel St., Halperin House on Gordon St.,

Villa Katz on Megiddo St., Haim Lurie House

on Shlomo Hamelech St., and Ribenfeld

House on Yirmiyahu St.
