Mobile Truck House

The house was designed for a family with 3

children, who dreamed of beating housing costs,

living modestly in nature without any obligation to

a particular place. For this, they purchased a used

"Bamba" truck 10 meters long, 2.5 meters wide,

and 2.3 meters in height. The 25 sq.m. space

was designed for all the family needs, including

bedrooms, a study and play area, and public area

with a kitchen, dining table and living space –while

maintaining the required social, spatial hierarchy,

and calculated eye contact between the interior

units and ever-changing exterior according to

location, hours of the day and seasons. The desire

to gain the most from it required openings for

natural light and vistas, using the original rolling

blind of the truck, enabling an exit to a verandah

situated on the truck’s ramp.

The small dimensions required a multi-functional,

minimalist design where modular units served as

storage, and closets installed on the exterior walls

and ceiling ensured better insulation. The space

was enlarged by a gallery, its lower part serving as

a study and play area, and its upper part - as the

children’s bedroom, from which they can view the

living area through a round window. The original

yellow color of the truck was enhanced by touches

of color in the interior design against a background

of light colors to achieve a sense of space.

Since the truck had no connection to infrastructure,

the house had to maintain an independent

electricity supply, air-conditioning, gas, water

and sewage. The roof contains a solar system to

generate electricity, and underneath the truck are

batteries, sewage collection containers, pull-out

kitchen hand shower, gas barbecue and additional

storage containers.
