MAD אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel #142 August 2025 | 82 | Jiaxing Train Station, China Located in a historic city 100 kilometers southwest of Shanghai, Jiaxing Train Station replaces a 1995-era structure with a new transport hub that re-imagines the role of civic infrastructure. Recreating the original 1907 station-house as a symbol of memory, the design anchoring it beneath a new floating metal roof is equipped with solar panels, while all the transport functions - waiting halls and city connections are placed almost entirely underground, allowing the ground level to return to nature. Above and below the surface, civic and cultural spaces are organized around a central lawn and flowing landscape.
