Café, Sacher Garden, Jerusalem, 2018

Located in the Israel Government Complex, the transparent structure was built as part of the winning

proposal for the governmental compound open-space competition in 2008. Part of the green lung of

the formal compound, the café re-brands the Sacher Garden, transforming it from an unused space

into an active urban park, softening the heavy governmental buildings

.

Bridging the topographical

slopes, the cafe offers an informal interaction arena for employees, citizens and random visitors. A

ventilated roof with photovoltaic cells supplies the cafe with electricity, and anti-U.V glazing allows

natural light penetration, expressing an intention for green design.
