Talma Freud - reporter, commentator
and language editor of AI also writes
thought-evoking poetry… we don’t believe
in “protectzia”, but this one is a relevant
exception:
Undo stitches sew a patch
Turn a line round
From end to beginning
Rub
Clean a stain
Move a button
Replace a decoration
Change color
Cut

Artist Itzik Mevorach is capable of assembling
photography, painting and sculpting in slow-
motion video work.
Dr. Iris Yaish – a senior Endocrinolog at
the Ichilov Medical Centre, is also a skilled
photographer who gives architecture an
added value via her sensitive humane point
of view.
Influenced by Picasso’s approach of turning
every line into a story, Kashmiri Artist AAmir
Wani is a sworn people lover, who believes
that Jerusalem is the Center of the world, and
that the Israelis who guard it are his friends…
A fine reason to offer him a stage of honor.

awards & competitions
After thirty years of writing, protesting and
despairing concerning the lack of shade in
Tel Aviv’s public spaces, the Municipality
has finally got it and conducted a design
competition for street shading devices. An
important idea, but the problem doesn’t
only concern streets or shading, but an
overall protection of every open public
space, particularly the promenades that
turn into greenhouses in the summer, and
in winter - roofless tents. First place was
awarded to Peri Davidovich Architects and
DMR Planning & Developm
ent Ltd., for
their “Cloud” proposal – a system of cloud-
like floating balloons in summer which can
be deflated in winter; second place went to
architects Eyal Gvirtzman, Noa Ronen, Dalit
Itkin and Yossi Kamir; and t
hird place was
awarded to two proposals - one by Yael
Halfman-Cohen, Melanie Samson, Saadia
Sternberg, Ella Antonia Hassin, Roy Yosifoff,
Tamar Vilnai and Omri Kaiser; and the other
proposal, submitted by Roy Tamir.

museum, the third Sakhnin Biennale “Out

Araba and Dir Hanna, along a planned
visitors route including places, people and
communities. Closing: end of February…
which is according to my calendar, soon.

Projects
The Paulaner Auditorium – the new main
building of the Leipzig University, established
in 1409 – the second oldest in Germany,
was accomplished by Dutch architect,
Erick van Egeraat – one of the Responsive
Architecture pioneers. A result of an
international competition in 2004, the building
is situated on the site of the Paulaner Church
that was deliberately destroyed in 1968 by
the GDR regime, despite its being the only
church to survive World War II. Intended for
ceremonies, events and conventions, the
structure, considered by Egeraat as his pièce
de résistance, recalls the image of the church
with its cross-shaped plan, saved details
of the church that were embedded in the
glass walls, and - in the spirit of responsive
architecture - 15.5 meters high transparent
sliding doors, enabling space adaptation to
needs.
The Herzliya Marina is about to lose its
comfortable outdoor parking lot in favor of a
luxury hotel designed by American architect,
David Rockwell.
Students
Students from the Technion competed for the
