Architecture and Design Department at the

Technology and Engineering College at

Ariel, yielded a number of interesting works

which demonstrate multi-functioning. Bar

Elmeliach designed a "Cinema Library" next

to Habima under the supervision of Architect

Etti Sassover; Merav Gutman-Avitan

designed a building to provide private work

spaces, for an ultra-orthodox population,

under the supervision of Architect Lior

Lightman; Nofar Taub designed a modular

building out of containers, consisting of

commercial and residential units, under the

supervision of Architect Moshe Levi.

Head of department: Architect Assaf Aviel,

said he was proud.

The mid-year exhibition “Mid Term” at the

Holon Institute of Technology exhibitedworks

by students' from the Visual Communication

and Interior Design departments. Works

by the Industrial Design Department were

presented separately during Pesach at the

Station Complex, Tel Aviv.

Head of Department: Nini Warshavsky.

Curator: Arie Berkowitz.

Students and researchers from the

ICD and ITKE departments at Stuttgart

University, constructed a study pavilion,

examining robotic construction capacity

based on parametric design. The 12 meter

long weaving construction consumed

184 kilometers of carbon and glass fiber

composite. The limited dimensions of

the structure were dictated by the closed

building in which it was built, but the principle

can be repeated on any scale according to

need. The composition of carbon and glass

fiber, which yields an effective ratio between

weight and strength, is popular in motor and

space industries. However, the construction

potential in the field of architecture is still to

be researched.

The project was conducted in collaboration

with biologists from the University of

Tübingen, who identified the shell-weaving

process by two reptiles: Leucoptera

Erythrinella and Lyonetia Clerkella.

Reported: Shir Katz, who participated in the

program as part of her MA degree studies.

events

The Tel Aviv Local Planning Committee

approved the building of a 100-storey

tower on Begin Street in Ramat Gan on

a site owned by the Tel Aviv Municipality.

Designed by Amnon Schwartz Architects,

the tower is intended for employment,

hotels, commerce, and public spaces.

The Jerusalem Local Planning Committee

approved the construction of the newBezalel

Campus on the Russian Compound. An

initiative from the nineties, the new campus

will help revitalize the city center, allowing

students to enjoy cheaper accommodation

in the town center.

Tel Aviv Municipality demolished the 12

concrete "Mushrooms" in Atarim Square,

claiming they constituted an engineering

risk due to salt damage from the sea. The

demolition of the entire Square is still to be

approved. Maybe we’ll be able to see the

sea from Ben Gurion Boulevard once again.

exhibitions

The exhibition “Absentee Landscapes” by

the Sala-Manca Group, in collaboration

with artists Nir Yahalom, Ketura Manor,

Adi Kaplan and Shahar Carmel is currently

exhibited at Hansen House, Jerusalem. At

the center of the exhibition is the “Deller

Sukkah”. An almost accurate copy of the

wooden sukkah from Germany (1850) one

wall of which was decorated with scenes of

Jerusalem, and the three other walls – with

the Bavarian pastoral village of Fischach.

Closing: 20.6. Mamuta Art Research Center,

Gdalyahu Alon St., 14, Jerusalem.

The group exhibition Escape Rooms is

now at the Nachum Gutman Museum, Tel

Aviv. The exhibition presents the work of

11 young artists who have graduated from

projects

Livay Dvoriansky Architects have designed

an in-depth renovation of the Ramat Gan

EngineeringDepartment.Locatedintheheart

of the city that is undergoing densification

with high rise towers, the building required

adaptation to contemporary standards.

In this framework, the ground floor will be

opened with the addition of a storey.

The recent renovationof theEilatMunicipality

Revenue Department was based on placing

the citizen at the center, providing a clear,

comprehensible plan, allowing privacy for

service recipients. Situating the offices at

the periphery, the outer walls are used for

letting in natural light. An inspiring design

gives both employees and citizens a sense

of belonging. The beauty spot of the project

is the wall of the office for issuing citizen-

cards - made of a collage of recycled wood.

All the details are made of durable materials,

including made to measure sofas covered

with washable fabrics. Wall illustrations by

artist Sohini Tal are meant to moderate the

bureaucratic nature of the place, adding

cultural value.

Interior architecture: Yasmin Shoshani.

students

20 students from the School of Design and

Innovation, Visual Communication Course,

at the College of Management, competed

for the right to design the Van Gogh vodka

bottle labels.

“Tel Aviv 2037” – a marathon workshop

lasting 96 hours was held at the Ariel

College of Technology, dealing with the

question of how the future residential unit

might be, while referring to studies and

trends. First place went to a residential

"House on Dizengoff Circle", composed of

computerized control apartments. Second

place went to the “Village above the City”, a

project that dealt with the housing shortage

in the framework of preservation. The project

"Above and Beyond" was designed to

address the problem of overcrowding, with

flexible apartments that can be expanded as

required.

Facilitator: Architect Gadi Dickman.
