The areas designated for extension in rural settlements have become a hotbed of architectural experimentation. In recent years we are witnessing more and more moderate development of the "build your own home" phenomenon. As opposed to the "screaming" forms which knew no bounds, here and there one can notice sane and elegant architecture. The quilt of architectural styles has been replaced by a moderate architectural expression, which gives the house a readable coherence, and the streets - a calm atmosphere.

The duplex structure shown here is composed of rectangular forms distinguished by slits of light. Vertical and horizontal variations of this motif blur the boundaries of space, thus enhancing visual continuity. A play of light and shade enriches the inner space, and contributes to the outdoors-indoors relations. The natural light penetrating in during the day, is replaced in the evening by artificial light which projects the buildings structure outward.
