I often ask myself how does it happen that any two opposing groups are, in the long run formed accidentally, almost identical in size, without any pre-coordination between them; that there is always almost the same number of males and females, right-wing voters and left, religious and seculars; the same number of policemen and thieves; yet, only the number of sloppy war interpreters is greater than those convinced to listen to them. As if they really know something we don't, and most of all - how exactly did it happen that, against all the rules, Israel has more wise men than fools, or in other words: how did the wise men of Chelm come into the world?. I checked and this is how it happened: once upon a time the Holy One Blessed be He gave the angel in charge of births two sacks-full of souls to sow all over the world. One sack was full of wise souls, and the other - with the souls of fools. Flying around, he sowed one handful of wise souls here, and a handful of foolish souls there, so that wise men and fools would be born everywhere in equal numbers . However, when the angel reached the place where the city of Chelm was later built, his wings struck the trees on a tall mountain, tearing a large hole in the sack of the wise souls, through which all of them poured out. And since then, all those born in that place were wise, and the rest is written in the endless stories about "The Sages of Chelm" . In time these wise men propagated and became a people, and said to themselves: Let us make a state for ourselves. The Holy One Blessed be He recruited himself to the task and helped the descendents of Sages of Chelm establish their own state, which they call, until this day, Israel. A state where everyone knows everything, believing that everyone else is the offspring of fools. And although we do not have what one would denote a "state", we do have the smartest people in the world, who were wise enough to create the most inventive computerised products and a nation that bore the most Nobel awardees yet were not wise enough to avoid inflicting on ourselves a group of stupid, arrogant and haughty leaders who brought upon us a disastrous war that only fools pull out of the hat once in two thousand years.
