Guest of the Season - spaceworkers Architects אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel #135 November 2023 | | 82 guests of the season spaceworkers® portugal Natalie Mann spaceworkers® is an architecture and design studio located in Paredes, northern Portugal. Founded by Henrique Marques, Rui Dinis and Carla Duarte in 2007, the studio concentrates on seeking and exploring new paradigms of contemporary architecture in order to achieve a close relationship between form, function and emotions. The work of the studio reflects the pragmatic vision with which it faces challenges and the critical spirit with which it evaluates the context that surrounds them, appealing to space users’ sensory comprehension. Over the last decade the studio has been awarded several prizes, including The Great Indoors Prize for the Interpretation Center of the Romanesque project, the 2015 Building of the Year Award for the Sambade House, an Honorable Mention for the Cabo de Vila House as well as several times being noted amongst the Emerging Architects around the world. In 2022 the architects Henrique Marques and Rui Dinis were distinguished with the Europe 40 under 40 Architecture & Design Award 2021-2022 promoted by the European Center for Architecture Art Design & Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture & Design. Born in 1981 in Paredes, Architect Henrique Marquesin graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of Lusíada University (1998-2003) and has worked with several architects, including the office HCAR - Helena Castro e António Raposo (Porto), Architect António Cabral Campello and Architect Júlio De Matos, as well as in the City Hall of Paredes (2004-2005) where he became part of the technical staff of the office, Rarcon - Arquitetura e Consultoria, S.A., later becoming the firm’s Project Director. Also born in (1981) Paredes, architect Rui Dinis graduated (as well) from the Faculty of Architecture and Arts of the University "Lusíada" (2000-2006) and worked with architect António Belém Lima between 2006 and 2007, where he was the project manager of some important projects. In parallel to these professional activities in addition he participated in several conceptual competitions until he founded Spaceworkers in 2007 together with his two partners, Henrique Marques and Carla Duarte who runs the financial administration of the firm. Born in 1980 in Marco de Canavezes, Carla Duarte is a graduate in International Relations of Economics and Politics from the University of Minho (2002). She started working as general secretary of the association AECL Lousada, where she was the leader of many projects. She completed her postgraduate studies in Business management in 2007 and recently concluded an MBA in Financial Management, thereafter being invited to be the executive director. In 2007 she coestablished Spaceworkers with her two partners - Henrique Marques (left) and Rui Dinis (right).
