Yiftach: yes...a semidetached home in Herzliya where the design starting point was a long and narrow plot with limited exposures due to an adjacent structure - the owners being a "dark green" couple for whom ecological aspects are very important. Not sure why but they feared a dark and choked home, and so we tried an unconventional solution by segmenting the structure, managing to flood the inside with natural light and ventilation. I refrain from asking awkward questions about the current desperate situation… God knows where it might lead. But, nonetheless, in every social crisis and certainly when it comes to destruction, there is a direct relationship to architecture, especially the power and influence of local authorities which allows officials to dictate the agenda; namely, what the buildings look like and how the built reality functions. And the question is: How do you deal with the inordinate power of clerks in decision making? Since we believe in original and innovative design, we certainly have a great deal of frustration dealing with conventions and arbitrary guidelines, especially from the pace things are conducted at, and the lack of planning clarity that leads to a low common denominator. This is a painful issue that has a decisive impact on the quality of the public space, affecting the quality of life of us all. Day to day coping is tough for us but we are prepared for it and have no intention of giving up.
