House of the Season - flat in TLV towers Tel Aviv אדריכלות ישראלית Architecture of Israel #128 February 2022 | | 16 Interior design is an open field that allows anyone who thinks he has good taste to sell his skills to the highest bidder. This has positioned the important profession with low importance relative to architecture, even though most human beings interface with buildings solely through their interior design. Moreover, while architects mostly function from a 'tabula rasa' position that allows them more maneuverability, interior designers must fit into the architect's shoes, heads, and desires - especially when it comes to already built residential buildings. With the growth of flexible design in both commercial spaces and residential buildings, interior design has risen in status; it is now taught in academic institutions, and in many cases interior designers are part of the planning team right from the preliminary stage. A collaboration between two designers of different generations - Tsipi Yavets Chen and Paz Chasdai - resulted in a project that considerably improved the missed potential of a contractor apartment in one of the prestigious residential towers in Tel Aviv. The starting point of the design was the dismantling of all the existing partition walls except for the reinforced shelter, making it an organizing element, instead of a separating factor. The master bedroom suite is one side, and on the other, a spacious, multi-purpose living space, flooded with natural light. Around a support pillar in the center of the living room is a black iron fireplace designed above a stone bench.
