It doesn’t really matter what it contains as long as it is attractive, intriguing and beautifully packaged. Beyond the fact that this aligns with the rating culture characterizing attention-seeking architects, there are also several practical reasons for this, most prominent of which is the need to computerise industrialized building methods, adapting parametric design that is based on a limited selection of building components. This phenomenon raises the question of who owns the building. The answer lies primarily in the design of the building envelope that in turn, affects the relationship between private and public. Reflected in the location of the openings that frame selected views in order to enhance internal spaces on one hand, the design usually results in shading devices or the need for maintaining privacy. Palaudarias Organization Retirement Home, Barcelona Located in a public civil domain in Barcelona, the most prominent feature of the one story building is a modular envelope intended to achieve maximum energy efficiency. Adjacent to a school, the wooden lattice envelope ensures a desired degree of privacy required for the inhabitants. Architects: CPVA.
